Two games into his major league career, the Miami Marlins inserted Agustín Ramírez into the cleanup spot of their lineup on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds, even with a right-handed starter on the mound. Get used to it. Ramírez went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a walk, included the team's two hardest-hit balls, playing a key role in their 4-3 victory.
Nothing against Liam Hicks, but Ramírez has matched his extra-base hit total for the season in a single series. The quality of his contact and his takes have been as good as advertised. Prior to the Ramírez call-up, this was already shaping up to be the best Marlins offense of the Bruce Sherman era. As long as he sticks on the active roster moving forward, that should definitely be the case.
Down on the farm, Triple-A Jacksonville won, 6-5. Joe Mack went 0-for-4 with a walk in his Triple-A debut. Deyvison De Los Santos went 4-for-5 with a stolen base. The reigning MiLB home run king has gone deep only once this season, but he's still make lots of loud contact and leading the Marlins farm system with 23 hits. Remember Seth Martinez? The 30-year-old reliever who was outrighted to the minors last month has been outstanding for the Jumbo Shrimp, striking out 14 batters in 7 ⅓ innings without surrendering any earned runs. Double-A Pensacola lost, 2-1. High-A Beloit lost, 8-5. Ryan Ignoffo homered and caught two runners attempting to steal. Low-A Jupiter lost, 7-5. In his season debut, PJ Morlando hit his first professional home run.
