A crucial offseason for the Miami Marlins is underway. Kevin Barral and Ely Sussman read between the lines of Peter Bendix's annual end-of-season press conference, take a big-picture look at the club's offense, ponder whether there is an opportunity to extend Sandy Alcantara through the rest of his prime years and begin analyzing a thin MLB free agent class.

You can find Fish Unfiltered and Fish On First LIVE on the Fish On First YouTube channel, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever else you get your pods.

The Marlins have until five days after the World Series to officially exercise Alcantara's $21 million club option for the 2027 season. Between that and a relatively large group of arbitration-eligible players, team payroll is almost certain to rise after Miami ranked dead last in the league this past year.
