  1. When I am in Louisville, the only Marlins games I missed on MLB.tv were games against the Reds, but some of those were on the local channel. I suppose it comes down to my Jacksonville time this season vis-à-vis the cost of purchasing the new package.  I figure somewhere in the 60-game range, so that's worth it to me. If Miami were closer, I'd attend thirty games in person, but the drive is simply too taxing, and Miami traffic/logistics are a freaking mess, frankly. Two road trips a year is about all I can handle. Back in the day, I shared four Club 4192 seats at Great American in Cincinnati with two other companies. We handled ticket selection like a draft before the season, and it worked out great. Even back then, a third of the games (four seats and a parking pass for each, mind you) was over $5,000.

  2. Nicely done! Fodor's will be in touch! Lol.

My Expos days up at Space Coast in Viera are great memories. Many guys who went on fine careers, including Jon Rauch, who I met shortly before his signing with the White Sox. I was thrilled he wore the Montréal uniform at the end of the franchise's time there.

Way back in the day, friends and I went over to Daytona. I still have the program that featured a young catcher named Bruce Bochy.

I need to create some Marlins memories. It's a little further drive down to Jupiter than Viera was, but you've added some enticing incentives to do so in a few weeks.

  3. This is a fine overview article - well done - and thanks for all the hard work!

Expos fans have deemed the names Loria and Samson as anathema. Jack Todd of the Montréal Gazette still closes every column with a weekly "Heroes" and "Zeros" list. The Zeros always end with "David Samson &&&& last but not least, Jeffrey Loria." Nevertheless, I have read extensively on the situation (including Loria's new book From the Front Row) and feel Loria's demonization is unreasonable.

There were behind-the-scenes machinations that allowed Loria to take full control of the Expos, that is, diluting his partners' shares when they failed to make cash calls.  The increasingly untenable situation in Montréal (including the rejection of a new stadium by the city and provincial governments) finally led to the Marlins "swap" arrangement involving Henry, the Red Sox, and MLB. But everything is mitigated by the failures and shortcomings of his Québec partners, all of whom were astute businesspeople.
