TBTC, had to look this one up; on 7/29/2016 your Miami Marlins trade Luis Castillo and Josh Naylor to the Padres for Colin Rea and Andrew Cashner.

I think this is the one that fell apart because Rea blew out his arm on start no. 1

The Marlins loved Castillo so much that MLB voided a portion of the trade and a few thereafter traded him to the Reds for Dan Straily.

Mike Hill the gift that keeps on giving.
How’s that Tyler Kolek no.2 overall working out?

    1. You remember correctly. All these years later, Rea has finally gotten back to being the 5th/6th starter type that he was before the injury.

The only trade between the Marlins and Padres since then was the Jorge Alfaro salary dump after the 2021 season.

      1. Oh yes but he’s “controllable,” wasn’t that why they traded for Jared Cosart who Fish spun for Rea.
Ugh you can see the disdain I have for Mike Hill.

  3. Testing to see if my comment goes through.

I do have to wonder how long Daniel Castano has been on the 7 Day IL, though. Seems he’s been on there since the start of the year. If it’s a serious injury, why not transfer him to the 60 Day IL and put someone else with more promise on the 40 man roster to fill the spot?

    1. Castano has been on there since April 17.

The main factor discouraging the Marlins from using MLB 60-day IL is money. Right now, he (and Sixto) are on the minor league IL after being optioned and therefore get paid like minor leaguers, whereas injured major leaguers are owed at least the MLB minimum. It’s a difference of about $100k per month.

I’ve seen plenty of other teams around the league that value the 40-man flexibility over the $ savings, but evidently not the Marlins.
